Compagnie du Ponant was founded in 1988 in Nantes with the aim of offering journeys by sea following the ancient French tradition. The first ship built was Le Ponant (1989), which has been navigating on the Caribbean Sea since 1991.

Since 2009 the company added the fleet high-tech and sophisticated yachts, such as Le Boréal, built in Fincantieri construction site. In 2011 L’Austral was launched and in 2013 Le Soléal. In 2015 Le Lyrial, was inaugurated, an ultra-luxury yacht.
In 2018 the company created the series Ponant Explore, composed of 4 yachts dedicated to exploring trips: Le Champlain, Le Laperousse, Le Bougainville e Le Dumont-D'Urville.

The Ponant company is a reference for luxury cruises and has been awarded many times as “Best Cruise Company”, as it offers intimate and high quality cruises.
