Baltra
Baltra Island, also known as South Seymour Island, is a small island located in the Galápagos archipelago of Ecuador. Thanks to its location, the city is the ideal starting point to explore other islands. The island is relatively flat and arid, with a landscape characterized by dry vegetation. This is the ideal destination for nature lovers because they have the opportunity to see the unique flora and fauna of the island. Even though its wildlife is not as rich as some of the other islands in the Galápagos.
However, visitors can see unique species like land iguanas, sea lions, and various bird species. In order to preserve them, government and local organizations are heavily involved in conservation efforts. During World War II, Baltra was used by the United States as a military base.
Their presence is still visible in the infrastructure left behind, including an airstrip, paved the way for its current role in tourism and transportation.
