Santorini

Santorini is a small circular archipelago of volcanic islands located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km southeast of mainland Greece.

Under the Roman Empire the city was called "Spalatum" and in the Middle Ages "Spalatro" in the Dalmatian language. In the Slavic language it is called "Split" while in Italian "Spalato". In the early 19th century the name became "Spljet" and then returned to the form "Split".
