Qeqertarsuaq (or Godhavn) is a small town in Greenland; it is located on the south coast of Disko Island in the bay of the same name, and belongs to the municipality of Qaasuitsup. Formerly a port for whaling, even today the inhabitants practice hunting and fishing a lot; it is home to an interesting museum and the Arctic Research Station. Near the town there are the beautiful Blaesedalen valley and the Lygnmark glacier. Qeqertarsuaq was also at the head of a municipality, the municipality of Qeqertarsuaq. This municipality was established on November 18, 1950, and ceased to exist on January 1, 2009 after the reform that revolutionized the internal subdivision system of Greenland; the municipality of Qeqertarsuaq joined 7 other municipalities to form the current municipality of Qaasuitsup. The city was founded in 1773 by Svend Sandgreen.
