Saint-Florent
San Fiorenzo is a French commune located in the department of Haute-Corse in the territorial entity of Corsica. Its position has inspired many poets and writers. This ancient Roman city is now a popular tourist resort, without detracting from its authenticity. Its magnificent white sandy beaches, its historic center and fishing port, make this city one of the most livable and most touristy in Corsica as well as being a renowned seaside resort. The picturesque old town is charming and full of incredible architectural sites. Do not miss the parish church of S. Anna, a particular square bell tower. Stroll through its steep streets and admire its beautiful fountain and its beautiful monuments. Go and see the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, a beautiful medieval building and historical monument of 1875. The beaches of San Fiorenzo are among the most beautiful places in the region. They offer turquoise waters, clear sand and are home to multiple water activities. You will find in particular one of the largest activity centers in the water. The City is also home to numerous regattas throughout the year. Discovering the magnificent beach of Roya, you can easily access paths that run along the Agriates desert. On the east side you will find the Mortella Tower, dating back to 1555. The tower was one of the means of defense and surveillance of the Gulf of San Fiorenzo. The Citadel is home to many typical restaurants and offers, during the summer months, multiple exhibitions of paintings and photographs. The Wine Route will make you discover one of the 33 wineries and cellars in the region surrounded by beautiful landscapes.
Ajaccio
The largest city in Corsica has all the attractions of a typical French Mediterranean resort, with beaches, palm trees, street cafés and a picturesque mountain range in the background.
If you didn't already know that Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, you will find out after just a few minutes of being here. With a glitzy marina, designer boutiques and trendy restaurants, Corsica's cosmopolitan capital honours its famous 'son' with street names, statues and various excellent museums.
Ajaccio is located in the most protected part of the Gulf of Ajaccio, an inlet of the Corsican Sea at the mouth of the Gravona and Prunelli rivers.
Its name comes from the Greek word 'Agation' (good port), due to its privileged position on the coast. The city has been occupied by the Romans, Pisans, and Genoese who built a fortifed citadel in 1492, and was populated by the Lunigiana families, including the Bonapartes. In 1769, one year after French occupation began, the city's most illustrious citizen was born: Napoleon.
