Stavanger is a Norwegian city located in the county of Rogaland, and it is a very ancient city. It seems that the first settlements took place about 10,000 years ago. It received city status in the 12th century, and in the same period, it became a bishop's seat, acquiring great importance from a religious point of view. It lost this role following the Protestant Reformation of 1536.
