For a journey different from the usual, immersed in a wonderful and at the same time extreme and mysterious nature, your destination off the usual routes is a cruise in Russia to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskj.
In a remote corner of the Kamchatka peninsula, at the far east of Siberia, north of Japan and west of Alaska, stands the small town of Petropavlovsk-Kamcatskij, which has just two hundred thousand inhabitants. It owes its name to the two ships on which the expedition of Vitus Bering traveled, who discovered it in 1740. Located on the slopes of the Avaca volcano, this city was forbidden to tourism and almost unreachable for the Russians themselves, who used it as a military base: here was in fact the headquarters of the large nuclear submarine fleet. Inhabited therefore by very few people, the city represented a mystery for everyone until the 1990s.
Today, however, there are many organized tours, from cruises to jeeps to airplanes, to reveal the attractions of the city. From the discovery of the old origins to walks through the center, where the statue of Lenin and the monument to the apostles Peter and Paul stand majestically, up to the adventurous ascent of the two volcanoes Avacha and Koryaksky or the photographic safari to spot the brown bear, the emotions will not be lacking. The naturalistic scenario is completed by a lake and a beach of dark volcanic sand overlooking the Pacific Ocean, a little outside the city. Board our cruise ships equipped for the most difficult routes in case of ice and with the Zodiac dinghies to visit the less conventional places.
